Not quite sure of what to make of this place. We were here at their soft opening which I wasn't too impressed by the lack of finished decor and limited choices. I come back a 9 months later and it still reminded me of their soft opening but with a few extras as far as food prep items and a bread display case. The point of service was very slow. The cashier was inputting cost of items using square on a phone which wasn't efficient. I waited in line for 10 minutes with only 3 people in front of me at the time. The plus is if you can get past that the eggs Benedict was delicious! I hesitated to order coffee because I saw a couple of redos from other folks when I was there. Food is good. Bread is tasty. Point of sale and menu options need improvement.

An absolute gem of a bakery. Everything I have ever ordered is a culinary delight! The almond croissant blew me away, and the owner/chef/baker provided such a personable and friendly experience. The cafe was clean, with such a pleasant peaceful atmosphere. I can't recommend this place enough.

My husband and I went there this morning and grabbed a coffee and he grabbed an almond croissant with a almond cream inside. He started have food poisoning symptoms about 1 hour after he ate the croissant. He hadn't had anything else to eat or drink. Poor guy is throwing up and in the bathroom constantly.

I would love to call them to double check but...I have been trying to call their number for a couple hours and no one is answering. I can't find an email address or website to contact them either.

On a different note the service seemed a little lack luster and the place just didn't seem very warm (decor) etc. I too will stick with Stella's. Love that place!

Update: I ended up walking down there and talked to someone working there - from reading other reviews I think it was the owner. He said that the croissant was filled with almond cream and told me in the ingredients and said he shouldn't have gotten sick. I hope he took the other Almond Pastry out of the display case to be safe or maybe I should have had him take a bite of it...

I have googled food poisoning with cream filled puff pastries and it is very possible.

"Foods that are associated with staph food poisoning include: Meats. Poultry and egg products. Salads such as egg, tuna, chicken, potato, and macaroni. Bakery products such as cream-filled pastries, cream pies, and chocolate eclairs. Sandwich fillings. Milk and dairy products."

ANOTHER UPDATE: It was clearly food poisoning. All of my hubby's symptoms are identical to the two times I have gotten food poisoning. Also no one else in the house is sick.

Prior experience was nice. Quaint shop, limited but good selection with responsive staff. Recently wandered in and was looked in the eye by two staff members who turned around and walked to the back room. My boyfriend and I discussed what we would buy, and when we looked toward the two remaining staff, they looked down and refused to engage in conversation. We were in the shop for several minutes with no offer of service when we were clearly there to buy. Confused by 5-Star ratings here when our experience was drastically different.

This place is not great. I would normally say 2/5- but they had my other review deleted. Always out of something- usually most of the menu. Eggs benedict was gross (broken hollandaise, eggs over cooked and tasted like vinegar). Batch coffee is horrible. To the point where I refuse to try their espresso. Nothing is seasoned well. But the worst thing? They deleted my review on Facebook. This place would be three stars to me other than that.

To the owner: do it right and run your restaurant well or just stick to the bread and pastries which are delicious.

Amazing! Special ordered a gluten free Irish soda bread for St. Paticks Day and it was fresh and delicious. The owner, Steven, is so gracious and accommodating. We would have paid twice the amount, it was that good.

Reminiscent of a bustling but laid back boloungerie in Paris. This place could just as easily be in Montmartre. Steven is very welcoming and his culinary chops are apparent. Breakfast is always simple and a notch above the rest, coffee is fantastic, and don't forget the best part... get an authentic baguette before you leave. The closest thing I have found in the states to the real deal.
5 stars is not high enough for this local gem. Keep up the good work!

Update: just wanted to add to Steven's comment about the "food poisoning" reveiw by Jersey Dickens. That is a very harmful, unfounded, un educated, and careless comment. Your husband probably had a stomach flu. I had a bad one recently that came out of no where. Food poisoning takes 6 or more hours to show ANY symptoms as that is how long it takes to digest. None of the ingredients in the croissant could possibly have made him sick. I urge you to remove your review as it is inaccurate and harmful to a wonderful small business.

First time

Seeing the word 'boulangerie' gave me hope but it soon dissipated. No espresso yet woman behind me was offered some. Limited options for pastries and the atmosphere was severely lacking. Posters sat on the floor and how much need is there for kid tables? Lots of wasted space. Pajama was better..
